Lyrics from "My Heart Is Broken"
"My heart is broken,
Broken wide open.
Oh lord I am ruined,
For I cannot tell anymore lies.
Oh girl can you hold that vision
Through all of this pain of truth?"
Background from Thomas:
"Earlier in life my heart had been broken by a series of events. I was depressed about it for some time. One day while I was reading a book by a spiritual teacher named Gangaji. She proposed that a broken heart was actually an open heart, and I began to realize that the pain I had been through had opened me to compassion, patience, and most of all, the ability to keep loving beyond pain. From this experience I wrote 'My Heart is Broken.' I sincerely hope this song inspires you to find the love in every moment."
Thoughts From Robert:
"This was the first song Thomas ever performed for me in his living room. The music and lyrics brought to me tears, and they are one of the main reasons I decided to support the band and drum in the group. For me, the broken heart forces us to go beyond the mind and see life from the heart, in a more loving way. Loss of a loved one can renew our priority toward love. We can all use a reminder not to be petty, or critical, or blaming. We may never see or speak to that lover again because they can be taken at any moment. I have learned that a broken heart is a reminder to appreciate, to express your love at every opportunity."
Thoughts from Vanessa:
"This song continues to be one of my favorites. Ever since hearing it for the first time I immediately was moved on a vibrational level, as if the words had literally touched my heart. For me it encompasses the full spectrum of loving experience. We feel our pain, not knowing if we can survive and then in a moment of random grace there is a small window of space to step outside of the suffering and realize the beauty that exists on the other side. This song signifies the value of acknowledging one's vulnerability and the strength to stand in your truth. Being able to sing this song is an honor and reminder that my true strength is being openly vulnerable and open in my heart."
Thoughts from Jess:
"There was a time in my life where the words 'better to have loved and lost than never loved at all' made me cringe. I didn't believe it. But the more I grow and walk through the hard stuff in life, the more I realize that every time my heart is bruised, it not only heals, but grows infinitely stronger. This song always reminds me of that wisdom."
